چکیده

Lava flows from the 2021 volcanic eruption in La Palma, Canary Islands, reached shoreline during three events on September 28th, November 10th, and 22nd, strongly affecting seawater properties as they interacted with seawater. The evolution of surface water column physicochemical (temperature, salinity, carbonate system variables, dissolved oxygen) was characterized 13 visits to frontal zone newly formed deltas. A large volume hot (50°C measured 12th) high salinity promoted pH values 7.0 important decreases alkalinity, ΔA T , total inorganic carbon, ΔC that 566 272 µmol kg −1 respectively. addition acids generated lava–seawater interaction (44.4 mmol), together those used titration alkalinity (796 ± 72 mmol) plus metal dissolution (21 estimated an average added proton concentration 0.31 affected 2.7 · 10 6 m 3 for 12th. During this event, decrease increase temperature increased partial pressure CO 2 outgassing tons 40 times daily emitted area under non-eruptive conditions. One month after eruption, studied close new deltas returned usual normal values, which include presence low pH, gas diffusive emissions through submarine groundwater discharges observed between mineral-rich solubility due conditions contributed recovery area.

Growth Faults, a Distinct Carbonate-Siliciclastic Interface and Recent Coastal Evolution, NW Nile Delta, Egypt

A sharp, well-defined interface between a late Pleistocene carbonate sandstone ridge (kurkar) and Holocene unconsolidated coastal siliciclastic sediment has formed largely as a consequence of recent structural activity along the NW Nile delta coast at Abu Qir, Egypt. Joint patterns in the coastal kurkar exposed on land, and its irregular and dislocated configuration beneath Abu Qir Bay, suggest...

Active Agent Oriented Multimodal Interface System

This paper presents a prototype of an interface system with an active human-like agent. In usual human communication, non-verbal expressions play important roles. They convey emotional information and control timing of interaction as well. This project attempts to introduce multi modality into computer-human interaction. Our human-like agent with its realistic facial expressions identifies the ...

Seasonal Variability of Phytoplankton Blooms in the Coastal Waters along the East Coast of India

Bay of Bengal (BOB) is a semi enclosed tropical basin located in the north eastern part of the Indian Ocean with high influence of fresh water discharge from major rivers and rainfall. Bay of Bengal (BOB) is highly influenced by monsoons and represents a natural laboratory to study the effect of fresh water fluxes on the marine ecosystem. Bay of Bengal (BOB) is very low in productivity often wi...

Variability of coastal ocean processes along the west coast of India

Three-dimensional Princeton Ocean Model (POM) is used to understand coastal ocean processes and its variability along the west coast of India. An attempt is first made to understand variability of the surface circulation and associated SST during July-August 2000 and 2002 as a response of daily wind stress forcing derived from the QSCAT winds. The coastal current reverses its direction to eithe...
